FAQ's

General

How does the service work?
It’s really quite simple. The system automatically prepares your selected files for backup, compresses the data, encrypts them for security and transmits the data sets off-site to a secure vault within our datacenter. An email is then sent confirming the events.

How safe is the service?
Backup sets are encrypted for complete security. With eBackups your data is protected by multiple layers of physical, logical and network security. eBackups encrypts the backups for complete security so nobody, not even we, can read them.

Where is my data going?
Your files are stored is a Class A Environmental Data Center. This facility has been providing a home for Mission Critical Internet Applications for over 10 years. Your data is sharing space with some of the most respected names in business (NASCAR, USA Today, Compaq)

Are these full backups?
Yes and No. Traditional backup types consisted of Full, Differential and Incremental backups. Our service utilizes the latest in backup technology that allows you optimize the speed and size of your backup sets. It’s called “binary patching”. With binary patching your data is not evaluated as a file rather, as a continuous string of binary data. Binary patching is capable of comparing files and extracting only the “patches” of binary data that have changed. Simply put, If only 1 kilobyte of data has actually changed in the file, then only a 1 kilobyte patch is extracted for backup thus eliminating the overhead imposed by older methodologies.

How automated is “automated”?
Once you install the software and create a backup set with a scheduled time, the system takes over. There is no need for manual intervention. Your system will awake at the scheduled time, scan for modified files, compress the chosen data, encrypt them for security and transmit the locked packet to your storage vault. An email is then sent with the log of all activities..

How is eBackups compare to tape backups?
eBackups addresses more of the requirements needed to truly protect your data. The process is similar to traditional tape backup procedures, with several important advancements. Our service is completely automated, more secure, and moves your data off-site faster.

Will I have to start the backup every day?
No. The system automatically begins at the scheduled time. Whether you have created a single backup set or created many running at different times, once you determine the schedule the software does the rest.

How expensive is this service compared to tape backups?
Probably one of the biggest advantages of eBackups is the affordable price. With our service, there is no hardware to purchase, no tapes to buy every month. Simply install our software on your existing system and you’re ready to go. Your monthly recurring cost will depend on the storage space you use each month. Check out our pricing plans.

Does e-Backups backup the vault?
Yes. eBackups understands that your data’s protection is the highest priority. We have spared little in building a redundant secure process to protect your files. The bank-like vault which stores your data is protected by several physical layers of security.

Can I stop using my tape system completely?
That’s really up to you. After you’ve received your email notifications for several days or weeks and restored your files to test the system, most businesses do. Whether you add eBackups to enhance your existing disaster recovery plans or use our service as your primary backup, your files are available 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

I need to hold on to my data for 12 months, can you help me?
With our Data Archiving service, we can provide you with a monthly copy of your critical data. By archiving your vault each month to CD or DVD you can begin creating a digital library for retrieval at any time.

What if I want to backup several computers to one account?
Our service will allow you to backup multiple PC’s, laptops, or servers to a single vault. By doing this, you can roll the service out to multiple users or the entire sales organization and take advantage of price breaks with larger service plans.

Is this service proven, it sounds too good to be true?
Originally developed over 8 years ago as a method for upgrading software, binary patching has received widespread acceptance by many of the world’s largest hardware and software manufacturers including IBM, Compaq and Microsoft. To cut costs and decrease the time to market, software manufacturers distribute their updates as tiny files or “patches” containing only the binary difference between the old and new version of their software. This is the same process that we use to deliver your service. eBackups is proven, safe and secure.

What operating systems does this work with?
Currently eBackups is focused on the Windows family of Operating Systems.
